Opportunity Snapshot

In this highly visible role you will make a significant impact on our organization by managing the company's estimating process. You will become part of a team that will implement "world class" practices enabling us to respond faster and more accurately to business opportunities. In addition to joining an exemplary engineering team, you'll become part of a high performance company driven by a core set of values that includes quality, integrity, timeliness, and customer satisfaction (we engineer and ship on time 99% of the time). Our cutting edge business model includes Kaizen continuous improvement and best-in-class HR practices.

In your role as a "world class" estimator you'll develop estimates for sheet metal assemblies and large fabricated weldments. You will have an opportunity to lead a team on continuous improvement projects in your area of expertise. To be a good fit for this role you must demonstrate solid experience with estimation templates or software in an industrial/commercial environment, and familiarity with metal fabrication. We're looking for a team-oriented professional with excellent people skills who can thrive in a cooperative learning environment. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated a drive to excel by already having achieved distinction in either your professional career or some aspect of your personal life.

Founded in 1987, ROC Industries is a custom metal fabrication company, manufacturing light-gauge steel products through heavy gauge structural steel components. We have grown 30% year over year for the past four years, in part by transforming ourselves into a lean, continuously improving Kaizen organization. Our goal is simple: "be the best." Our strategy is well defined: provide quality, on time service at competitive prices with short lead times. As a lean, high performing company we offer a unique value proposition to engineers: a great deal of variety in your responsibilities, high visibility, cross-functional collaboration and creativity.

What Else You'll Bring to the Table

In addition to the qualifications detailed above, you'll need:

What's in It for You

High impact -- as you are probably well aware, estimating can be a key success factor in a manufacturing business. One of your key missions will be to leverage and improve our estimating accuracy and lead times in order to meet the robust business demand. Great companies are always in big demand!

High visibility -- because we are a lean organization, you will have significant visibility and impact on our future growth. You will interact with our senior leaders including the company president. You also will be responsible for communicating directly with our valued customers such as General Atomics, SAIC, Solar Turbines, Inc., L3 Communications and more.

Progressive company in an old-school industry -- we're committed to staying ahead of the curve in our industry, and the initiative you'll drive is just one example. In short, our company is thriving and we don't just want to grow, we want to lead the way.

Great work environment -- we take a proactive approach to helping our people develop professionally. For example, we use a coaching model rather than the traditional performance evaluation model, encouraging employees to take ownership of their career and providing them with support and resources to grow their skills and potential commensurate with their personal life goals. While we run a disciplined and results-oriented organization, we enjoy a casual environment and we like to have fun too!

Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary and company-wide incentive plan, we offer a comprehensive benefits program.

More About Your Role

ROC Industries has two main divisions: You will report to our Director of Engineering and from the high level view, your activities will fall into three key areas: During your first few months you will contribute to manufacturing engineering and departmental improvement initiatives. This will provide you with a solid introduction to our business processes. Once you have settled in, you'll focus more on the three key areas detailed above.

Continuous improvement is a fact of life at ROC Industries, and you'll incorporate this philosophy into your daily practice in order to leverage your manufacturing experience, train others and create more growth opportunities for both the company and your personal career.

Keys to Success

To excel in this role you will act as change agent, stretching yourself by challenging conventional thinking with new ideas. In addition, in order to be an outstanding Engineer/Estimator, you will: If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we want to hear from you!

Who We Are

Established in 1987, ROC Industries offers design, engineering and fabrication services along with customer support activities. We have earned a solid reputation as a custom metal fabrication company, specializing in the fabrication of steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Superior service and computer-integrated manufacturing assist in providing products on a just-in-time basis. Unlike many sheet metal fabricators, ROC Industries has more than one specialty, and provides services such as punching, bending, welding, painting, and assembly of electro-mechanical components.

ROC Industries serves as an authorized distributor for two companies that provide fire suppression and detection equipment worldwide. A large portion of the company's sales are dedicated to the many separate and autonomous divisions of Solar Turbines, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Caterpillar, Inc.

ROC Industries operates very effectively with a full, intact management team including a President who runs the day-to-day operations. The company is positioned for future growth both in respect to the management team and the company's excellent achievement for on-time job completion and product reliability.
